Overview

Calnode is a scheduling app. You set when you are free, share a link, and the people you meet pick a time that suits them. It checks your real calendar so nobody books over a meeting you already have, and it sends everyone a confirmation. It is one small program with its data on your box, and it has a full API and a built-in MCP server, so an AI assistant can find free times and book for you.

Features

  • Booking pages for each kind of meeting, with their own length, location, and questions for the person booking
  • Weekly working hours and one-off changes, correct across time zones and daylight saving
  • Checks Google Calendar, Microsoft 365, and CalDAV calendars (iCloud, Fastmail, Nextcloud) for conflicts and adds new bookings to them
  • Guests can reschedule or cancel from the link in their email
  • Team scheduling: round robin, collective, fixed, or priority hosts
  • A booking widget you can put on your own website
  • A REST API, signed webhooks, and an MCP server for AI assistants
  • Optional extras: paid bookings through Stripe, Zoom links, built-in video rooms, and chat booking with your own AI model

Setting up

Open the app and create your owner account; the first account created becomes the owner. Then add an event type and set your available hours. Share the booking link it gives you, which looks like /book/your-event.

To check your calendar for conflicts, connect it from the admin pages. CalDAV calendars need only an app password. Google sign-in and Google Calendar need a Google OAuth app of your own, which you add under Settings, then Google OAuth.

Good to know

  • People can book you without the box login. Your booking pages, the booking widget, and the links in booking emails stay open to anyone with the link, the same as any booking page. The admin pages keep the box login.
  • Team members need the app set to Public. A teammate signs in to Calnode's admin pages, which are behind the box login. To add a team, first create your own account, then set this app's access to Public. Calnode's own sign-in then protects the admin pages.
  • Booking emails need outgoing mail. Bind a mail provider in moose's settings, or set up email inside Calnode under Settings, then Email. Until then, bookings still work but no confirmation emails go out. Calnode saves the first mail settings it gets and keeps them, so to switch provider later, change it in Calnode under Settings, then Email.
  • The admin pages load a font from Google. Booking pages load nothing from outside your box.
  • Some extras use services you sign up for. Video rooms need a LiveKit server, and recordings and backups need an S3 storage bucket. Meeting notes send the recording to Deepgram for a transcript and to an AI model you choose, both with your own API key.
