Overview

Ditto is a social app built on Nostr, an open network where posts travel over public relays instead of one company's servers. You read and write posts in your browser, pick a colour theme, and keep your own identity.

Your moose box only hands out the Ditto web page. Your posts, follows and keys do not live on the box.

Features

  • A home feed with notes, replies, reposts, reactions and long articles
  • Themes: nine built-in looks, and you can make and share your own
  • Zaps: tip posts and people with Lightning
  • Profiles, follow lists, mute lists and notifications
  • Sign in with a Nostr key, a browser extension, or a remote signer

Setting up

There is no account on your box. Open Ditto and sign up to make a new Nostr key, or sign in with a key you already have. Your key stays in your browser, so keep a backup of it. Nobody can reset it for you.

Good to know

Ditto uses public services that your box does not run. Posts go through the Nostr relays Ditto is set up with, such as relay.ditto.pub. Uploads go to a public media server (blossom.ditto.pub), and link previews and favicons come from api.ditto.pub. Your browser calls all of them directly.

Your posts, follows and settings are stored on those relays and in your browser, not on your box. A new browser or device has to sign in with your key again.

Ditto needs HTTPS for some features. On a plain .local address, push notifications and encrypted media do not work, the QR scanner cannot use the camera, and Ditto takes about 40 seconds to show the app on every page load. Turn on secure URLs in Settings, Network, for a normal experience.
